Tournus and Saint-Philibert Abbey

About 20 minutes from La Maison Rosie, Tournus stretches along the Saône in Saône-et-Loire. Its history reaches back to Roman times, and its medieval centre — narrow lanes, stone houses, boutiques, and restaurants — makes it one of the finest stops in the region.
Saint-Philibert Abbey
This Benedictine abbey, begun in the 10th century, is probably one of the oldest surviving Romanesque churches still standing. Visitors marvel at its elegant columns and round arches, 12th-century mosaics depicting the signs of the zodiac, frescoes, and a 10th-century crypt with intricately carved capitals.
