About 27 minutes from La Maison Rosie, Cluny preserves the memory of one of the most influential abbeys of the medieval Western world. Founded in the 10th century, the Benedictine abbey of Cluny was a major centre of religious life across Europe, and its abbey church was for centuries among the largest in Christendom.
